Update from Albuquerque, NM March 26, 2013
During the time I’ve been away from this website, I’ve been writing and teaching—two activities I love. What I did not do? I did not develop a platform because I quaintly supposed that my books were my platform. Let me explain.
I am one of the Luddites whose cell phone is chronically off. The model is approximately ten years old, and it doesn’t have texting capability, nor does it have capacity to take photos or access apps. And no surprise, I don’t use Facebook or Twitter. The obvious conclusion to draw is that I don’t use (anti-) social media to promote my books or myself.
Don’t mistake my lack of a platform for disinterest in reaching readers; I knew you wouldn’t; I’m protesting too much. I want you to read my books, especially this new book of poetry—Wearing the Phantom Out. I want you to be moved (to tears is good); although, I have a sense of humor that leavens my doom cloud—cheerful doom, you might call it. And yes, I want you to recommend the book to friends. Hand it to them if you’re so inclined, or encourage them to buy their own copies. Wearing the Phantom Out is available from Amazon and Create Space.
That bit of promotion out of the way, let me show you what you can expect from Wearing the Phantom Out. The first poem in the collection, “Program Notes” explains what follows in the collection. Go to Poetry tab.

Original Author Notes
Born in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn on April Fools’ Day, Dodici Azpadu graduated from St. Joseph’s College in New York, received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop, and earned her PhD from Pacific Western University.
Her family origins begin in the Kalso, an Arab ghetto in Palermo, Sicily. Heritage plays a significant role in the creation of her characters, gay and straight, who struggle with love, self-worth, family, and exclusion.
Dodici has lived in San Francisco, Oakland, and Iowa City. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she currently lives, she teaches creative writing to community college students. She also mentors writers and poets in private workshops and tutorials.
Living Room is her first novel since the publication in the United States and Great Britain of the novels Saturday Night in the Prime of Life and Goat Song. Her short stories and poems are included in several anthologies. Her poetry chapbook, Rumi’s Falcon, was published in 2005.
